“[you] want to change the world – don’t know how to begin. You want to know how to change the world, son?
– One act of random kindness at a time.”
Ok – so it may just be a one liner from a white linen clad Morgan Freeman aimed at congressman Evan Baxter (Steve Carell) following his pledge to change the world in the comedy ‘Evan Almighty’ – but we have to agree, it’s not a bad place to start!
Whether it’s at ROC Conversations, meetings with volunteers, liaising with community groups or just fielding enquiries in the office, there’s one common question that repeatedly drives people to get in touch: “how can I make a difference in my community?”
At ROC we’re in the privileged position of mixing with inspiring members of the community and we’re continually exploring new ways to help empower people to help make their community a safer, kinder place to live. Albeit small, we’ve had tons of fun brainstorming one of our latest creations – 101 Community Ideas.
Its simply a list of community activities spanning a host of different categories aimed at impacting a wide range of the community from young people and families to those affected by homelessness and poverty.
Our hope is that even if you just take one of these ideas, or are inspired to come up with your own – you get to see how far one act of random kindness can go towards impacting your community.
We want to give you this list of ideas, for free, to do what you like with – to give to whoever you want. If you use any of the ideas or have some great ideas of your own, we’d love to hear from you. Just get in touch via our contact page.
