Celebrating 5 years in Northern Ireland

To celebrate our 5 year anniversary of ROC in Northern Ireland, on Friday a team from ROC headquarters in Manchester travelled to Belfast for the ROC Your World: Northern Ireland Conference.

The weekend celebrations started with a Civic Leaders reception at the Lord Mayors parlour at City Hall in Belfast with a celebration party at Newtownabbey Methodist Church on Friday evening. The Saturday saw a full day conference with workshops on community transformation.

By far the best part of the celebration was hearing about the projects launched and the lives helped over the 5 years in Northern Ireland. We heard of the 40+ volunteers who are the unsung heroes in communities around Northern Ireland through our various projects. Projects such as the Crumlin Road ROC Cafe, which has 60 primary school aged children registered to their Monday night programme. The ROC Cafe aims to develop stronger relationships with the children and their families and to promote a safe environment for all to learn, play and grow. This year, ROC Crumlin Road partnered with Barnardo’s NI Collective Impact to improve the children’s literacy and numeracy skills, with Key Stage 2 enjoying ‘Awesome Science’ projects and Key Stage 1 really taking to the ‘Pirates Ahoy’ literacy and numeracy programme.

It has been a great privilege to celebrate Northern Ireland and the amazing volunteers who work towards benefiting their local communities. You can view more of our celebration below.
