Have you ever wondered what has happened since a community conversation? Well, wonder no more! In this blog post, we will be discussing the progress made since the ROC Conversation on 11th October 2022 in, and the exciting opportunities available for volunteering and community involvement in Holsworthy, Devon.

First up, we have “Let’s Cook Holsworthy.” Organised through a Primary School – Community College partnership, this initiative is nearly off the ground. Unfortunately, the launch date had to be postponed due to illness. However, this is an amazing opportunity for parents to take some time out and learn some creative, tasty, and affordable recipes to feed those hungry mouths. There’s no cost thanks to generous funders, and no experience or materials required. If you’re a parent who hasn’t yet signed up, or you’d like to know more, contact Holsworthy Primary School or the Community College.

Next, we have the “Share the Warmth” project. Most people have been aware of the Winter Coats Project, and if needed, have found themselves a coat. A big thank you to Jon Hutchings and Holsworthy Mutual Aid, as well as the Memorial Hall, for running/hosting this. The follow-on from this has been a warm coat exchange in Holsworthy Primary School, added to their Uniform exchange, and Warm Coat Weekends at the Sports Pavilion. Come along if you have a warm coat that you’re willing to donate, or if you still haven’t been able to find a warm coat, hopefully, there will be one there for you.

Lastly, “Stay & Play” is up and running for children under 5 years old. Please bring a parent/carer and come along on Tuesday mornings from 9.00-11.00 am in Bodmin Street Chapel. It has taken a lot of hard work to get this initiative up and running, and we would like to congratulate Michelle and the team. This is a much-needed, fantastic opportunity for little ones who have had a relatively isolated start to life.

If you’re interested in finding out more about what else is happening in the community, ROC and Holsworthy & District Community Forum invite you to ROC 2 Conversation on Wednesday 26th April at The Purple Circle, Holsworthy Community College at 7.00 pm. To book a place, please contact [email protected] or call 07494 687031.

Overall, these initiatives show that progress is being made since the ROC Conversation in October 2022. These are exciting opportunities for community involvement and volunteering, and we can’t wait to see what other initiatives will arise in the future. Let’s come together as a community and make Holsworthy an even better place to live!
