Although we are not able to meet face to face at the moment, Paul Wilson, who coordinates  this work, has been delivering training to the mentors via the wonderful platform of Zoom.
Sarah Mhlanga, our ROC Champions Project leader, has helped deliver some of this training this week. She led the section on Parenting. This is a very current issue that many families will be facing, during Lockdown, particularly the pressures of home-schooling.
Sarah shared her personal experiences with mentors and gave some tips that have helped her family deal with some of these pressures.
Top tips include; remember to have some breaks and fun. Remember that kids learn in many different ways and during this lockdown period kids have learned new skills they may not have picked up at school. Use the many tools offered online to help you. Don’t feel guilty, just do what you can.
A pilot telephone mentors scheme will be launched in Reading in June.
