Saturday 2nd August saw the launch of the ROC Chaplaincy Scheme in Brighton writes Paul Wilson ROC’s Project Development Manager in the South East. The area of the Level, a busy city centre park in the heart of Brighton, saw ROC Chaplains patrolling the park between 4pm and 8pm on Saturday afternoon. The chaplaincy project which is being run in partnership with Sussex Police and Brighton Churches is running on consecutive Saturday afternoons for the duration of the summer holidays. The chaplaincy is there with the simple aim of providing a highly visible presence that can offer help and support to people if they need it. It’s about making the Level a safer, kinder place for everyone to enjoy.

Paul said ‘We  were delighted to be met by Sussex Police in the form of PCSO Nicola Harrison (pictured) at the Level  who gave us a warm welcome. The first day went really well, the Level was pretty busy  with lots of people enjoying the summer sunshine. People seemed very pleased to see us and there was lots of interest in the new chaplaincy project.’

If the project is successful, we will be looking to make it a more permanent fixture in the future.
