Our ROC Conversation in Portsmouth took place on Thursday March 14th at Kings Church.

One Body Portsmouth, a network of churches and charities, were instrumental in inviting ROC to come and conduct the community conversation initiative.

Civic leaders in attendance included;

  • Glenn Higson Royal Navy,
  • Cllr Suzy Horton Deputy Leader of Portsmouth Council,
  • the Deputy Lieutenant, Mrs Arabella Birdwood,
  • Lee Sheen Fire and Rescue Service Commander,
  • John Ryder (Hons) Criminal Justice,
  • Lauren Taylor Community Safety Partnership,
  • Anne Murphy Deputy Vice-Chancellor University of Portsmouth,
  • Chief Inspector Andy McDonald, Hampshire Police.

We also had many community organisations represented including Motiv8, ROC Mentors, Trussell Trust foodbank, One Body Portsmouth and many local churches.

A highlight was our interview with Sophie King from Motiv8 youth and 16 year old Mackenzie telling us about how she benefits from being part of it.

It was encouraging to hear about the Pathfinder Foodbank which runs from Kings Church and how many people benefit from hundreds of food parcels distributed every week.

We also heard how the ROC Mentors project has developed by Abi MacPherson and her team over the last 3 years and how they offer Foodbank clients a mentor.

Action groups are being formed to follow up the ideas generated on the evening.
